Mr. Rode joined Kuehl and Payer, Ltd. in 2000 after three years of experience with the Iowa Department of Transportation. Kent has served as the Project Engineer/Manager for rural/urban street projects, parking lot improvements, streetscaping projects, industrial and private subdivision developments and recreational trails during the analysis, planning and design phase of the improvements. He also supervises the construction and resident observation of all of these infrastructure projects.
Transportation Related Projects
Kent has prepared final plans for both rural and urban highways involving all aspects of design. Infrastructure projects for which Mr. Rode has had design responsibility include subdivision projects with related plats and site design and street, water, storm sewer and sanitary sewer design. He has also been responsible for designing a downtown streetscaping project as well as numerous urban street projects involving storm water management, permitting and utility design.
As a Highway Engineer Intern with the IDOT, he spent the first year on a rotational training program, becoming familiar with the many areas and divisions within the Department, followed by two years in Road Design. Included in his design experience are a variety of road projects, special intersection design, recreational trail improvements, culvert and storm sewer design, and construction and cost estimating. Kent has prepared project specifications and written project special provisions.
Mr. Rode has designed HMA and PCC parking lots for both municipal and private businesses. He was the design engineer for the Little Maquoketa River Mounds Project, which exhibited cooperation between state government and Native Americans while developing the preserve with a parking lot and walking trail to the Indian burial mounds. This project was a nominee for the FHWA Biennial Awards design contest and represents innovative solutions to unusual design problems.
Kent was the design engineer for the ABATE Freedom Park, the location of a bike rally for over 10,000 bikers. The project involved the planning and layout of roadways and campgrounds within an 80-acre parcel of wooded timber and pasture.
Other Project Experience Mr. Rode has extensive experience with the special assessment procedures for municipal projects. Preliminary and final assessment plats and schedules have been prepared by Kent for several municipal projects. His work experience also includes topographic surveying, subsurface drainage tile design and open channel design as well as design/management responsibilities for sanitary sewer projects, large confinement building site plans and livestock trailer washout facilities.
