Kuehl and Payer, Ltd. Engineering in Storm Lake, Sac City and Algona Iowa

J. Scott Shevel, P.L.S.              sshevel@kpltd.com

Boundary/Land Development

Mr. Shevel has over 25 years of experience in Land Surveying. After obtaining his professional license, Scott joined Kuehl and Payer, Ltd. in 1990 as head of the land surveying department. Since assuming that role, he has been responsible for hundreds of surveys including:

Boundary Surveys

Under Scott’s supervision, Kuehl and Payer provides plats and legal descriptions to create new parcels, new retracement and monumentation of existing deeds, subdivisions and of lines established under the rectangular land system.

ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys

Utilizing the standard requirements adopted jointly by the American Land Title Association and the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping, Scott has prepared numerous ALTA/ACSM Land Title surveys. These are a very detailed and specific type of survey used to graphically show the relationships between deed lines, occupation lines, improvements, easements and encumbrances, visible encroachments and noncompliances.

Preliminary Surveys for Infrastructure Improvements

Accurate preliminary survey data is the foundation on which design decisions are made for any proposed infrastructure improvements. Under Mr. Shevel’s supervision, Kuehl and Payer crews gather the data needed to prepare plans and specifications for engineering designs.

Photo Control

Topographic mapping of large areas is often most effectively done utilizing photogrametry. Accurate ground control is an essential part of this process. Scott has been in charge of gathering that data for numerous mapping projects.

Construction Staking

Mr. Shevel’s supervision provides the horizontal and vertical control needed for Kuehl and Payer to grade and pave roadways, construct parking lots, layout buildings, layout bridge piers and abutments, construct drainage ditches and structures, lay sewer and water lines, and do earth volume and quantity determinations.

Subdivision Layout

As the Land Surveyor in charge of numerous subdivisions both residential and commercial, Scott’s responsibilities have included lot layout and design, topographic data gathering and preliminary plat preparation, obtaining approval of appropriate governing bodies, infrastructure staking, final plat preparation and monumentation and coordination with the engineer in charge to prepare plans and specifications for infrastructure improvements.
